Nigeria Red Cross Society (NRCS) detected the first cases of Diphtheria in Dikwa, Borno State during the outbreak in November 2023 with 24 suspected cases reported through the Nyss platform. The Ministry of Health commended NRCS for its pivotal role in enhancing the surveillance system and facilitating early detection and response to outbreaks.

The International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is ramping up response efforts over the surge of mpox cases across Africa. It has triggered WHO and Africa CDC to declare the epidemic a public health emergency of international and continental concern over the past three days.

The Uganda Red Cross, Norwegian Red Cross and IFRC hosted a Coordinator-level training on community-based surveillance (CBS) in Entebbe, Uganda June 10-14th.
