Following the successful containment of Ethiopia’s first Marburg Virus Disease outbreak, declared over on 26 January 2026, IFRC convened a regional workshop with governments and National Societies to document lessons learned, strengthen RCCE and Cross-border surveillance as core national capacities, and develop actionable recommendations to enhance early warning, coordination, and community trust for future public health emergencies. The workshop employed a participatory, multi-method approach including country presentations, group discussions, technical briefings, and plenary sessions to capture experiences, identify gaps, and agree on prioritized actions at national and cross-border levels.
