UGANDA: 45,600 children vaccinated against measles and rubella

Uganda-

In May 2023, 16 suspected cases of measles were identified by Uganda Red Cross volunteers of the Community Epidemic and Pandemic Preparedness Programme in Bundibugyo and reported through the community-based surveillance (CBS) platform. In total 160 cases of measles and 4 deaths were reported throughout the district.

Following the outbreak, Uganda Red Cross volunteers supported the Ministry of Health in mobilizing communities and operationalizing vaccination centers for a mass measles and rubella vaccination campaign in the district. Volunteers also reached out to students through established school health clubs. Health quizzes were organized for pupils, with a series of prizes including Red Cross T-shirts for winners. By June 8th, a total of 45,600 children had been vaccinated against measles and rubella in the district.
