Epidemics begin and end in communities. When communities are engaged and trained in epidemic preparedness and response, they become vital contributors to finding and stopping outbreaks, saving lives, restoring services, reducing negative impacts, speeding recovery and building resilience.

The Global Meeting: “Lessons from the Community Epidemic and Pandemic Preparedness Programme” was held on 24-28 April 2023 in Geneva, Switzerland. Over 93 participants took part in panel and showcase sessions, group discussions and technical workshops on the results of the Programme implementation in Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guinea, Indonesia, Kenya, Sierra Leone and Uganda.  

Attendees included representatives from 17 Red Cross Red Crescent National Societies, IFRC and partner organizations: the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the World Health Organization, the Global Fund to Fight TB, AIDS and Malaria, the Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO) and the Vaccine Alliance (GAVI).
