Through the Programmatic Partnership with the European Union, the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) and the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) have joined forces to enhance Community-Based Surveillance (CBS) in Bangladesh.
This partnership aims to strengthen early detection, reporting, and response to health threats, ensuring timely action against disease outbreaks. It involves community volunteers and frontline responders working together and playing a crucial role in identifying and reporting potential health risks, contributing to faster public health interventions. And it makes sure communities are empowered to serve as the first line of defence against outbreaks, contributing to stronger public health resilience in Bangladesh.
The Danish Red Cross assisted BDRCS in the development of bespoke CBS systems and tools, now built in a customized App, which are used by both BDRCS and IEDCR. As of April 2025, information collected by Bangladesh Red Crescent volunteers is now available in a dashboard in the IEDCR website, making disease surveillance data accessible to technical teams and the wider public.
This inclusion is a recognition of this partnership among BDRCS, IEDCR and Red Cross and Red Crescent partners working to make health surveillance proactive, informative and community-driven. Together, we are working towards a healthier, resilient Bangladesh!
